Verses of the MND Community
MND Scotland will publish an online book of poetry titled ‘Verses of the MND Community’, on Global MND Awareness Day, on the 21st June, to publicly express the deepest thoughts and feelings of those affected by Motor Neurone Disease, and help highlight the reality of life with the illness.
So MND Scotland is putting out an appeal urging you to get closer to your creative side. We are keen to receive poems from people with the illness, and their partners, families, and carers, to help convey the profound emotional and physical consequences of life with this illness.
All work submitted will be published on the website in a book format that can be downloaded or viewed on-screen. To make an immediate impression upon readers the charity would also appreciate the help of volunteer artists to create illustrations.
Thanks to the benefits of online social networks we can reach out to a huge audience and hope that the awareness raising publication may even have an international flavour. By liaising with other MND charities around the world and posting on their Facebook pages we hope that people from other countries will also feel welcome to send their own poems and read the final publication in June. ALS Society of Canada, Les Turner Foundation, ALS Therapy Development Institute, MND Australia, MND Victoria, and MND Association of South Africa have already agreed to help with the appeal. With luck and an open response from people affected by MND, ‘Verses of the MND Community’ will be a truly international effort for Global MND Awareness Day.
