Launched on Global MND Awareness Day 2012
On the 21st June 2012, MND Scotland’s book of poetry, ‘Verses of the MND Community’, was put online for the world to read.
It began with an inspiring response in March to poems written by people with MND; these were published on our website and shared with others on our Facebook page. The sharing on Facebook and positive comments from those who read the poems encouraged us to take things a step further. We began appealing for further contributions from readers of Aware, supporters on Facebook and Twitter, and asked the international MND community to get involved thanks to online social networking with similar charities around the world; the objective being the creation of ‘Verses of the MND Community’ and as much coverage about it as possible at this special time of year.
MND Scotland would like to thank those who have publicly expressed their deepest thoughts and feelings in this publication, and everyone who has helped spread the word. The poetry will hopefully articulate the very personal emotional and physical challenges faced by those affected by the illness whether they have MND, are partners, family members, friends, carers, professionals or people bereaved by this fatal, incurable illness.
If you wish to contribute to MND Scotland’s poetry collection on our website please send it to bryan [dot] carroll [at] mndscotland [dot] org [dot] uk, if you need any further information feel free to call Bryan Carroll on 0141 945 1077.
