Featured Fundraiser – Leanne Thorpe – Do Something Special

Our featured Fundraiser today is Leanne Thorpe.  Leanne’s been raising money to fight MND for 7 years, during which time she’s raised over £10,000 in memory of her Gran.    Do something special.  What does that mean to you? To me, it means my pledge to MND Scotland for 2012.  I am already planning & hosting an Alternative Race Night & Disco at the King’s Park Hotel on 6th October,… read more »

Featured Fundraiser – Ian Goudie – London Marathon 2012

The London Marathon is perhaps one of the best-known fundraising events in the country.  Places are highly sought after, and charity places are like gold dust.  We hold a Silver Bond place for the event, which means that we get a place once every 5 years – this isn’t, unfortunately, something we can change… our next place will be for the 2014 race! What this means is that anyone who… read more »

Go Gobi!

A little while ago you might remember us talking about the Gobi Desert Challenge – a joint fundraising escapade being undertaken by a lovely group of folk, all football fans, led by serial fundraiser Jock McInnes & Scottish footballing legend Willie Henderson – a challenge that was being taken on in memory of Jinky Johnstone and Davie Cooper. Well, they got back, they survived (just)… and by all accounts had… read more »

Guest Blog: Christina McKelvie MSP

Christina McKelvie MSP has been a supporter of MND Scotland for many years now, last year participating in one of our Firewalk events.  She’s pictured below at our Strathclyde Park Fun Run which was held in May of this year.  For this special guest blog, we asked Christina to tell us a little about why this cause is close to her heart, and her support for our organisation. Christina with… read more »

Jinky Johnstone Statue unveiled

Those of you who are of a football persuasion will definitely have heard of Jimmy Johnstone – we wrote about him here http://mndsfundraising.wordpress.com/2010/10/25/jinky-johnstone-davie-cooper-and-the-gobi-desert/ in connection with the Gobi Desert Challenge that’s being done by these people: http://gobidesertchallenge.com/ to raise money for us and the Davie Cooper Centre. “Jinky” Johnstone is a Scottish footballing legend, voted Celtic’s best ever player in 2002.  His death in 2006 came after a 5 year… read more »

Doctors & Dogs

Fundraisers come in all shapes and sizes.  Some fundraisers can be quite… inventive, shall we say?  Which we love. Meet Ewan Jack.  He’s trying to break the world record for running a marathon dressed as a doctor.  (not in a canoe, I should add.  I’ve just pulled these pictures from his JustGiving page…) And he’s also currently our top fundraiser – at the time of writing this blog post (a… read more »

d2d Challenge – Finish Line

You might remember a little while ago we told you about the d2d challenge - a group of Branch Managers from the Derbyshire, Cheshire & Dunfermline cycling from Derbyshire to Dunfermline to raise money for MND charities.  Each branch aimed to raise £1000 (some branches absolutely smashed this target, I’m looking at you Kirkwall & Anniesland…) for a grand total of £100,000. The finish point was Dunfermline HQ, so last Wednesday… read more »

The Gobi Desert Challenge 2011

See any newspapers on Friday?  We appear to have been in a few of them…  and all because of the Gobi Desert Challenge 2011. You might remember we told you about this back in October of last year – it’s a group of Rangers, Celtic & Motherwell fans trekking 100 miles across the Gobi Desert, led by expedition experts Sandbaggers, to raise money for ourselves & the Davie Cooper Centre… read more »

Scottish Music & Mischief…

At MND Scotland we’ve got an amazing supporter base of community fundraisers, who between them raise a very large percentage of our annual income.  We really couldn’t provide the services we do without their commitment and hard work, and for that we really are very grateful.  Those of you out there who organise race nights, bag packs, and collections.  Who jump out of planes, run races and climb mountains.  Thank… read more »

Derbyshire to Dunfermline…

If you’ve been into a branch of the Dunfermline Building Society recently then you may have seen some of our branding, or badges, or leaflets, or tshirts, or some very tired cyclists…. because of something called the D2D Challenge – The Derbyshire to Dunfermline Cycle Challenge, which is taking place in April of this year.  (Next month! How did it get to be March already, seriously…) The staff and customers… read more »
