Doddie ups donation to MND Scotland

International rugby player, Doddie Weir, who was diagnosed with MND in 2017, has now announced his foundation will up this contribution with another £50,000 donation towards MND Scotland’s grant scheme.

MND Scotland offers three different grants to people affected by the illness in Scotland, to help reduce some of the extra costs that come with a diagnosis of MND. The grants can be used in various ways, such as; to help with costs towards equipment, adaptations to someone’s home, power of attorney fees, taxis to appointments, or to allow a family to have their last holiday together.

Doddie said, “We are delighted to be able to increase our funding and bring further support to people like me and my family who are affected by MND. We recognise that MND Scotland are best placed to distribute the funds on our behalf and the grants have already made a difference to the lives of many families in Scotland who are facing life with this terrible disease. We are only able to do this with the incredible support we receive from our fundraisers and we are all hugely grateful for their ongoing and committed efforts on our behalf.”

Craig Stockton, MND Scotland’s CEO, said “This additional donation from Doddie’s foundation will help us provide support to even more people across the country and we are very grateful to Doddie and his foundation for their generosity. A diagnosis of MND can place a financial strain on all those affected by the condition. Through our grants scheme, with the support of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, we are able to remove some of the additional stress that financial worries can cause and allow people to concentrate on living their lives.”
