Neurological Repair Mechanisms

Humans have great difficulty in repairing damaged nerves, particularly in the spinal cord, yet some animals, such as the common aquarium fish the zebra danio are able to quickly regenerate and repair spinal cords that have been surgically severed.  It is hoped that by studying the repair mechanisms of animals like these we might gain insight into how to activate repair mechanisms in humans that are equally effective in repairing damaged nerves.
