MND Awareness Week 21 - 28 June

Your Personal Story in Local Press

A Simple Guide to Get in the Paper and Raise Awareness of MND

Awareness Week begins on the 21st of June until 28th of June. Tell your story to local press or even tabloids? Journalists love a personal approach to raise awareness and may also wish to visit you at home to carry out an interview.

Some Ideas for Personal Stories

It's really simple. Give it some thought, what's your angle?

  • How are you coping with your illness?
  • How is the family doing?
  • Have you found it difficult to come to terms with bereavement?
  • Are you fundraising?
  • Has it been difficult to access benefits...?

Making Contact with the Paper - Get the Phone number and an email address (reporter or newsdesk)

Deadlines for locals are usually about Monday or Tuesday but you are best to make contact on the previous Thursday or Friday (17th or 18th June). Give them a phone first and get an email address.

To get the phone number simply google the paper's name and type Tel:

Press Release Guidance and Template

They may ask for a press release so we have created a downloadable Press Release Guidance document for your information and a Press Release Template. To make things easy then use the template and email your story to whoever you made initial contact with over the phone.

Good Luck... Keep us updated with how things went - email bryan.carroll@mndscotland.org.uk
