Lawrence is a Communications professional with extensive experience of campaigning for change in the health sector. He was instrumental in securing an agenda-changing commitment from the Scottish Government to stop breast cancer deaths by 2050 – a UK first. He also led the successful campaign to make life-extending breast cancer drug Kadcyla available for the first time on Scotland’s NHS. The campaign has changed the face of treatment for incurable HER2 positive secondary breast cancer in Scotland.
When his best friend Gordon Aikman was diagnosed with MND, he helped set up and run the Gordon’s Fightback campaign. It transformed care for people with MND by doubling the number of MND nurses and funding them through the NHS. Gordon’s Fightback has also raised over £600,000 to fund research into a cure for the disease.
Lawrence led efforts to secure the first MND clinical trial to come to Scotland in over 20 years and is a key figure in driving forward Scotland’s research efforts in the condition.
He has recently become Director of Communications at Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland - the country’s leading charity supporting people affected by chest, heart and stroke conditions.
"When I’m not campaigning I love spending time with my family and friends; getting people together with great food and drink is one of my favourite things to do. I love classic rock music, comedy and a good film or boxset. I also enjoy travelling, especially to France. I was lucky enough to live there for a number of years and speak fluent French.”
