MND Scotland Fun Run Relay

Step up this May and help fight back against motor neurone disease!

The MND Scotland Fun Run Relay is back for 2021!

Last year we transformed our annual MND Fun Run into a national relay race across Scotland, from John O’Groats to Gretna, and this year we need your help to go the extra mile!

Mum runners, dad runners, kid runners, “running’s not really my thing” runners, and “I’ll just walk the dog and pretend I ran” runners. If you’re able to go the distance (any distance!) for motor neurone disease, then we need you to step up on Saturday 22nd – Sunday 23rd May.

  • FREE sign-up
  • Suggested sponsorship of £100 (but every penny counts!)
  • Choose your own distance
  • Get free one-off MND Scotland Fun Run Relay socks and medal*
  • Make a difference and get that awesome MND fightback feeling

What’s the big idea?

Whether it’s a 5K run, a longer walk than usual with the dog, or even wheelchair laps of your back garden, every extra kilometre will help Team MND go the distance! Just make sure you're following the Scottish Government's guidelines.

Last year we set the ambitious goal of running 581 kilometres (361 miles) which is the length of the Scottish mainland, from John O’Groats to the border at Gretna. But 700 of you went above and beyond, running six times longer, racking up an incredible 3,706 kilometres.

This year we want to set our goals higher. The sky’s the limit; let’s see how far we can go!

Every relay race has a baton and we’re calling ours the Blue Baton of Hope. Obviously, we’re not going to be passing you a real baton (ew - germs!) but ours is a symbol of unity, determination, and teamwork, to get Team MND’s baton over the finish line.

Besides, we wouldn’t want to rob you of the opportunity to fashion your own blue “bog roll baton” at home. The extra bonus for parents: it'll give the kids something to do! Think about all the people you could ask to sponsor you during your 20 minutes of peace and quiet?

Taking part is easy

  • Sign up for free to take part on the weekend of 22-23 May and we’ll send you exclusive MND Scotland Fun Run Relay socks, plus medals for all participants in your household. You’ll also get the chance to download your tribute panel to wear on the day and to show off in your front window when you're done.
  • We’ll send you an email with your digital fundraising pack with lots of fun ideas for the day, including fashioning your own blue baton, building your own relay team, and all of the awards and prize categories up for grabs!
  • Ask your family, friends, and neighbours to sponsor you for your run or walk on your JustGiving page. It could be £1… £5… £10... It depends how generous your sponsors are feeling.
  • Don’t burn out – make it a proper team relay if you can. The more the merrier. So come on Mum, Dad, Aunt Sue, Uncle Bob, Archie the dog... You’re up too!

And don’t forget to share your Fun Run Relay pics! We’ll be awarding prizes for: Best Fancy Dress, Best Sock Photo, Best Blue Baton, Best Dressed Dog, and Best Medal Ceremony!

If you need any help, our friendly fundraising team is getting lonely and would love to hear from you. Email fundraising@mndscotland.org.uk or give them a call on 0141 332 3903 for a chat.

*Please note: Only 1,000 pairs of socks and medals available. Socks are subject to size availability. Our mailing cut-off is Wednesday 12th May. Anyone who signs up after this date will receive their socks and medals AFTER the event weekend. Registration closes on Wednesday 19th May.

Pass the baton back

We’d love to see all your Fun Run Relay photos, including your home made “bog roll batons”, fancy dress costumes, socks out and about, medals ceremonies, pets, and window tributes.

Don’t forget to share your photos on social media tagging @MNDScotland. Email your photos to communications@mndscotland.org.uk and we’ll share a selection of our favourites on social media!
