Tesco raises £43k for MND in one weekend

Tesco stores across Scotland and England have raised more than £43,000 for MND Scotland in support of a young mum from Milngavie living with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Staff decided to raise funds for the charity after reading news about 29-year-old mum Jennifer Bell who was diagnosed with the disease two years ago and was given just a few months to live.

Jennifer has been sharing her journey with MND on her Instagram page and has amassed an enormous online following.

Around 230 Tesco stores in Scotland and the north of England took part in fundraising activities for MND Scotland during the weekend of May 29th to June 1st, raising a total of £43,496.

Morag McGown, Corporate Partnerships Manager for MND Scotland said: “On behalf of everyone at MND Scotland, I’d like to say a massive thank you to Tesco colleagues and customers across Scotland and the North of England. We’ve been absolutely blown away by their kindness and generosity.

“Jennifer is such an inspiration and it’s so lovely that she is seeing the positive difference she’s making.

“MND is a devastating terminal illness, which threatens the freedom and security; emotionally, physically and financially, of people affected. With the outbreak of Coronavirus, these same people are now under threat from a second disease.

“We’ve been working hard to refocus our services to offer the maximum level of support to families affected by MND across Scotland, and this big boost from Tesco helps fuel that vital work.”
